Rumpi Messenger is a proprietary cross-platform instant messaging client for smartphones that operates under a subscription business model. It uses the Internet to send text messages, images, video, user location and audio media messages to other users using standard cellular mobile numbers.
The primary concern was that Rumpi Messenger required users to upload their mobile phone's entire address book to Rumpi Messenger servers so that Rumpi Messenger could discover who, among the users' contacts, is available via Rumpi Messenger. While this is a fast and convenient way to quickly find and connect the user with contacts who are also using Rumpi Messenger, it means that their address book was then mirrored on the Rumpi Messenger servers, including contact information for contacts who are not using Rumpi Messenger. This information was stored in hashed, though not salted form and without "additional" identifying information such as a name, although the stored identifying information is sufficient to identify every contact.
